Vermont Law School - South Royalton, VT.

The Financial Abuse Specialist Team (FAST) of Vermont  is pleased to announce the first ever Tri-State Conference for Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont FAST members and other professionals working to remedy and prevent the financial exploitation of elders. At this conference you will learn about best practices for addressing financial exploitation and current efforts underway in the Tri-State area, with the goal of developing action plans to improve systems and enhance protection and prevention.

The morning sessions will focus on information sharing and the afternoon sessions on information gathering.  Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan is our keynote speaker and will highlight efforts to identify the needs and vulnerabilities of older Vermonters and initiatives underway to improve support and protection.  New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald and a delegation from his office will speak about New Hampshire's newly reformed Elder Abuse and Exploitation Unit and their successful efforts in in combating financial exploitation in New Hampshire.  Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Ricker Hamilton will discuss his work on prevention and mitigation of financial exploitation.

The afternoon sessions will include Talitha Guinn-Shaver of the US Department of Justice’s Elder Justice Initiative discussing the work of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Technical Assistance Center and how to access technical assistance and other services through the Center.   This presentation will include an overview of the MDT model, best practices, and the many benefits of MDT collaborations. Plus there will be smaller group discussions, focused on specific areas of interest.  Be sure to choose two break-out sessions when you purchase tickets so you are assured a place at those sessions.

July 18, 9:00 am to 12:00: FAST Working Group

This 3 hour hands-on working session will lead your team through the stages of team formation, explore common challenges that teams face, and will include exercises and case examples intended to support the work of each participating team.
